About Me

I am a trauma therapist living, working, and playing in the vibrant and cultural city of Cardiff. I love the outdoors and on my days off you'll find me hiking in the Brecon Beacons or soaking up the stunning coastline along the Gower.

I'm committed to social justice. This has led me to work in Fairtrade, medical education, suicide prevention and frontline domestic abuse services.

I'm passionate about travel and learning from other cultures. I spent ten years living in Vancouver, on the beautiful west coast of Canada. It is here that I completed my counselling training and became inspired by the mind-body approaches originating from this region.

One of the most life-changing things about my time in Vancouver was the opportunity to learn from First Nations elders about indigenous approaches to healing, including participation in traditional ceremonies. This taught me to value community and to honour the interconnectedness of life.

I know what it is like to be a client. Like you, I have been through painful life experiences and so understand very well the risk of putting yourself in the counselling chair, as well as the rewards. I hope I can make you feel comfortable to take that chance for yourself.

Prior to launching my counselling practice, I worked at Women's Aid as a Specialist Psychological Advocate. In this role I saw clients one-to-one, facilitated groups and delivered counselling skills training to independent domestic violence advocates. Before this I spent three years as a full-time therapist at a Trauma and Sexual Abuse program in Vancouver, Canada where I worked with clients with complex trauma histories to support their healing and recovery.

Education and Professional Development

I have a Master's degree in Social Anthropology from the University of Edinburgh and completed my Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling in Vancouver. I felt drawn to specialise in trauma and studied for a year-long certificate program in Indigenous Focusing-Oriented Therapy and Complex Trauma at the Justice Institute of British Columbia, where I learned about the intergenerational impacts of trauma. I then certified in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy for Trauma Themes with the Institute for Sensorimotor Psychotherapy and recently completed further professional development for the clinical application of Internal Family Systems.

Therapeutic Approaches

I welcome clients from all walks of life, diverse backgrounds and populations facing marginalisation. I am anti-racist and an LGBTQ+ ally. My special area of focus is the treatment of complex trauma and the therapies I have found most effective in this area are called Internal Family Systems and Sensorimotor Psychotherapy, for their mindful, body-oriented and non-judgmental approaches. Please feel free to ask me any questions about how these approaches work in the counselling setting.

I am an accredited member of the National Counselling & Psychotherapy Society (NCPS) and follow their code of ethical practice. I receive regular supervision.
